 <content>\emph{Efim Isaakovich Zelmanov} (born 1955) Russian (formerly Soviet) mathematician, perhaps best known for his solution of the restricted Burnside problem. Almost half a decade before the collapse of the Soviet Union, Zelmanov left for America and taught at Yale University and most recently at UCSD. In 1994 he was awarded the Fields medal.</content>
