| It is more work on a chalkboard -- filling in the triangle -- the same reason we no longer use bold letters for Z and R and instead use the thin letter bolds we all use as blackboard bold. I think good math notation lives or dies based on the way it can be drawn on blackboards -- witness the death of gothic lettering save a few symbols in Lie theory no one can draw.
I thought the double triangle was a good substitute until someone complained saying they used that for subnormal. Now I use the completely clear "H is characteristic in G" which isn't that hard to write if you decide to stick to it. |
