| | Although there is nothing in principle to prevent such a situation from arising, proofs by contradiction aren't all that informative and can be dangerous pedagogically (since they rely on assuming that if you seek a contradiction and find one that you also haven't made a subtle mistake)--also I've seen a lot of proofs by contradiction which were really proofs of the contrapositive in disguise. Is there a context in which this question arose? |
