| | The motivation is that the space with exponent p is the dual vector space to the space with exponent q. In particular, note that when p=2, then q=2. In that case, the space is dual to itself. This comes from the fact that, when p=2, the space is a Hilbert space ans, as Riesz showed, Hilbert spaces are their own duals. |
