| Sorry, should cross out "unique" in the Theorem I quoted.
Rather that the subspace spanned by $x_{k+1}, \dotsc, x_n$ is unique
unless the form is degenerate (i.e. $x_1, \dotsc, x_k$
are linearly dependent.)
