[parent] Viewing Correction to 'group ring'
generalization by rmilson

Correction id: 446
Filed on: 2002-04-18 08:01:35
Status: Accepted on 2002-04-19 01:17:13
Type: Erratum

Correction text:
Shouldn't this be generalized to R[G], where R is any ring
or field?

Also add group algebra as a synonym

Comment from object owner djao:
As I understand it, R[G] is the group algebra of G over R, and Z[G] is the group ring.

(This terminology does make sense. While R[G] is a ring, it is more precisely characterized as an algebra over R. And Z[G] is not in general an algebra over R, so the most that you can call it is a ring.)

I will add this material to the entry.
