IMHO, the user's page should stay like it is, while the visitor's page should be browsing-centric; if you come to planetmath looking for something specific, you won't be very interested in the news.

I find myself unable to vote until I consider myself part of an informed electorate. Specifically I lack information regarding the definition of the phrase being used as an adjective to describe the potential state of the home page, and what differences would arise from a change to this state.
