alternating knot
An alternating knot![]()
is a knot with a diagram that has crossings that
alternate between over and under as one travels around the knot in a fixed
direction.
Examples of alternating knots include the trefoil knot (http://planetmath.org/ConnectedSum) and the figure-eight knot.
