[parent] canonical projection (Definition)

Given a group $ G$ and a normal subgroup $ N \lhd G$ there is an epimorphism

$\displaystyle \pi\colon\thinspace G\to G/N$
defined by sending an element $ g\in G$ to its coset $ gN$. The epimorphism $ \pi$ is referred to as the canonical projection.

Is this the right place? by Dr_Absentius on 2003-01-31 13:14:50
I defined canonical projection because I wanted to reffer to it but maybe the contents of this entry should be incorporated into the entry
about the quotient group. I am not sure how this would be done but I am
sure there is a way.
