Laurent Lafforgue (Biography)

Laurent Lafforgue (born 1966) French mathematician, educator and research director of Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS). After earning degrees in arithmetic and algebraic geometry, Lafforgue proved Langland's conjectures on $ GL_n$ of a function field. In 2002 he was awarded the Fields medal.
