David Huffman
David Albert Huffman (1925 - 1999) American mathematician, best known for Huffman coding used in many lossless data compression .
Huffman served in the U. S. Navy during World War II as a radar maintenance officer on a destroyer. After the war, he continued his studies at Ohio University and earned a PhD from MIT in 1953 and joined the faculty there that year.
