projective resolution

Let $M$ be a module. A projective resolution of $M$ is an exact sequence of the form

$$\mathrm{\cdots }\to P_n\to P_{n-1}\to \mathrm{\cdots }\to P_1\to P_0\to M\to 0$$

where each $P_n$ is a projective module.
