left function notation

We are said to be using if we write functions to the left of their arguments. That is, if α:XY is a function and xX, then αx is the image of x under α.

Furthermore, if we have a function β:YZ, then we write the compositionMathworldPlanetmath of the two functions as βα:XZ, and the image of x under the composition as βαx=(βα)x=β(αx).

Compare this to right function notation.
